Male is among one of the smallest cities in the world, having approximate population of 137,000. Male is a great historical city. Islamic center is the most famous landmark in Male. A perfect example of Islamic architecture. Islamic center has a big mosque and a library.
The city has a fish market and a local market as well. Fish market is the main trade center of the city. Tuna is the fish widely used for sale. Local market has the all the particulars for sale including fruits, vegetables, dried fish, nuts and many more.
Friday mosque built by Sultan Ibrahim in mid sixties served as the main mosque for many years. But with the creation of Islamic center in 1984, the Friday mosque lost its importance.
Mulee-aage is palace situated in Male just next to the Friday mosque. Mulee-aage is used as president’s office in current age. City also has a museum and a park.
Maldivians handicrafts are worth praising. Mats crafted with beautiful designs are among the top in creativity. People are experts in building boats from coconut wood.
Despite being a very small city, it has almost all the ingredients to catch one’s sight. The city is paved with clean roads, shadowed with lush green trees and friendly people. It is a perfect city to be toured, a perfect land to relax and even a perfect area to enjoy.
